LoveTweet.me
We've already blogged about this one, but we're going to add it to our Portfolio too! As part of a larger marketing strategy, LincWeb Design was approached by digital marketing agency Screendrip to produce a simple Valentines Day themed Twitter application. The basic premise of which was to analyse a user's Tweets against a set of keywords, and determine how loveable they were according to the matches of the keywords, and the number of followers they had.
The project went live around 09:00 (GMT) on Valentines Day (14th February, 2011) and received lots of positive attention on Twitter and other social networking websites. Celebrity 'Tweethearts' calculated included Tom Hanks, Lady GaGa and Katy Perry!
Since the application largely used Twitter's Search API and atom results, it was necessary to cache the results in order to prevent flooding the API. This was achieved by writing the generated Tweethearts to a MySQL database, storing information about the keyword matches as a JSON string. This also allowed additional functionality in that users could then access their generated 'Tweethearts' by visitng a simple permalink.
Here's a list of the technologies we employed to calculate the love!
- PHP
- AJAX
- MySQL (used to cache results)
- XML
- JSON
- jQuery
