Aces, Contrails and Unsung Heroes
Mike Stockton, an avid collector and researcher of the United States Army Air Forces wanted to create an online community where collectors, researchers and historians could exchange information about the WW2 units of the USAAF. He approached LincWeb Design, and wanted help setting up an online Forum with which he could advertise events, share knowledge and even socialise with some of his colleagues and fellow collectors.
Using the phpBB software, we created a nifty little design which could be easily added to the board. Mike wanted something that looked and felt like it was from WW2, and related to the USAAF. This was certainly an interesting brief, and something surprisingly difficult when you consider the technological differences of 60+ years. By combining aspects of WW2 (such as insignia and font faces) we were able to add the look and feel Mike was looking for.
Also part of the brief was to create a simple "landing page" offering information about the website and the community it intended to assist. This was created with the Air Force look and feel in mind. By combining the idea of an airframe (riveted aluminium) and the traditional olive drab colour, we achieved a fresh-looking, clear cut design there too.
Here's a list of the techniques that this particular project required:
- Graphic design
- Logo design
- Content creation and copywriting
